Commercial Refrigerator HEATCRAFT — Refrigerant Leak Detection and Repair

✅ In early May, we were contacted by Ben, the manager of one of the convenience stores located at a modern Loop Neighborhood gas station in Sunnyvale. He reported elevated temperatures in the commercial HEATCRAFT refrigerator (model MOH020D73CFTS).

In high-traffic locations like this—where perishable goods are stored and quick service is essential—consistent refrigeration performance is crucial for daily operations.

✅ During the initial diagnostics, a refrigerant leak was identified in the section between the solenoid valve and the TXV (thermostatic expansion valve).

✅ The client approved the proposed repair plan, and our team carried out the following work:

• Replaced the damaged section of refrigerant piping
• Performed a high-pressure leak test — no pressure loss detected
• Properly evacuated and recharged the system with 9 lb of fresh refrigerant
• Total repair cost was approximately $1,000

✅ After completion, the unit reached and maintained stable temperature levels, resuming normal operation.

Additionally, during the service visit we identified:

• An intermittent signal issue from the low-pressure switch, which depends on wire positioning.
• The wiring was secured to minimize the risk of failure.
• While this issue does not currently impact performance, we recommend replacing the sensor as a preventive measure to ensure long-term reliability.
